Hello again from the rocky shores of Newfoundland and thanks to those out here who are giving me access to their internet.
I see that four babies are now running around the nest. Must be quite the time for the parents. I believe I just saw the fifth egg still in the nest but will leave confirmation to those with better eyes than mine. Thanks to all of you for keeping an eye and updating us all through your comments.

Upon closer viewing it has become evident that there are in fact 4 chicks in the nest. The 4th egg was thought to have been ejected from the nest days ago, but as it turns out, it did hatch. The youngest chick is significantly smaller than the other 3. It will be interesting to see if it can survive the competition for food. So far it seems aggressive enough to push its way through & partake during feeding, and resilient enough to be stepped on and sat on by the other chicks and bounce back. We did a site visit yesterday. We found at least one dead chick beneath one of the trees with a newer nest (possibly a youngest less experienced adult heron). The 5th egg in the nest does not look very healthy but the parents continue to care for it. It will be interesting to see at what point it is given up on.
